Construction of a football stadium with 55 thousand seats has begun in New Tashkent
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the foundation stone of a football stadium in New Tashkent. The sports facility will accommodate 55 thousand spectators and will become the largest in the country. It will be built according to FIFA standards for the U-20 World Cup, which will be held in 2027 in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
On November 11, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the ceremony of laying the first stone for the construction of a football stadium in New Tashkent, the press service of the head of state reported.
As noted in the report, 75 large and 302 mini-stadiums are currently operating in the regions of the country. In 2017, the country had only 3 football fields that met the requirements of FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation; today their number exceeds 10.
The construction of the National Football Center has been completed in the Yukorichirchik region. More than 65 thousand young athletes play football in specialized schools with the assistance of coaches and sports medicine specialists from foreign clubs.
Today 20 Uzbek football players play in foreign clubs. The total transfer value of these athletes exceeds $60 million, and the defender of the Uzbekistan national team and the English club Manchester City Abdukodir Khusanov became the most expensive football player in Asia.
The President said that during a recent visit to Uzbekistan, FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the infrastructure and reforms in the management of the football industry.
On October 2, the FIFA Council approved the holding of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2027 in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. In each country, championship matches will be held in three stadiums. The final and semi-finals must be held in a stadium with a capacity of more than 50 thousand spectators - this is one of the requirements of FIFA.
“Therefore, we are starting the construction of an important facility for domestic football - a stadium in New Tashkent. Why was New Tashkent chosen for this $100 million project? Because New Tashkent will become a center of opportunities and advanced ideas,” said the head of state.
The sports facility will be integrated into the natural environment and built on the principles of “green energy”, “smart management” and creating a comfortable urban environment, the report says.
The stadium will be built in accordance with all FIFA requirements and is expected to become one of the largest and most technologically advanced football facilities in Asia. It will have the maximum capacity in the country - 55 thousand spectators. Now the largest stadiums in Uzbekistan are Pakhtakor and Bunyodkor, which accommodate 35 thousand and 34 thousand spectators, respectively.
In preparation for the championship, a separate state program will be approved, which will define tasks for infrastructure, transport, hotel services, medicine and the volunteer movement.
“The foundation of the New Tashkent stadium, which we are laying today, is the basis of our victories tomorrow. I am sure that this stadium will become a source of inspiration for young people, a symbol of pride of the people and a great gift to millions of fans,” the president said.
At the end of the event, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the capsule into the foundation and launched the construction of the stadium.
